When Is the Fortnite 9th Birthday Event Live?
The 9th Birthday Celebration went live September 21, 2026, and runs until October 1. The actual anniversary lands September 26, the day Battle Royale first launched back in 2017.
Not every region got the quests at the same moment. Epic rolled the Celebration tab out region by region on Mastery Monday, so if your quests showed zero progress on day one, this is why.

All Fortnite Birthday 9th 2026 Quests and Rewards
Epic kept the track simple: nine quests, three reward checkpoints.
- Complete 3 quests: Choco-9 Cake Back Bling
- Complete 6 quests: Cake Crusher Pickaxe
- Complete 9 quests: FNCS Sentry Back Bling
Every completed quest also pays 5,000 XP, so grinding this track is a solid Battle Pass boost on top of the free cosmetics.
Finish all nine and you keep all three rewards permanently in your locker, no expiration.
Every Quest in Fortnite 9th Birthday, Broken Down
You can tackle these in any order, and most work across Battle Royale, Zero Build, and OG. A handful spawn more reliably in OG early on, which we’ll flag below.
1. Dance Using Any Emote
The easy one. Pop open your emote wheel once during a match, anywhere. Plenty of players just do it on the Battle Bus so they don’t forget.
2. Eliminate Opponents While Aiming Down Sights (2)
Land two kills while ADS. Play normally with a shotgun or AR and this one usually finishes itself.
3. Throw Birthday Presents (3)
These are Legendary throwables sitting as floor loot or in chests, mostly in OG right now. Pick one up, throw it, and it bursts into a lootable present box.
The throw is what counts, not the pickup, and the three don’t need to happen in one match.
4. Eat Slices of Birthday Cake at Named Locations (4)
Look for the big decorated cake dropped at select POIs. Smaller slices sit on plates around it.
Walk up and interact to eat one; it heals health and shield, and some players report it only registers cleanly if you’re actually missing some.
Land early, because a full cake can vanish fast once a squad finds it.
5. Deploy Balloons (5)
Balloons drop from loot and from cracked-open Birthday Presents. Equip one and jump to trigger it. This quest tends to finish itself while you’re farming presents in OG.
6. Hit Headshots (6)
No trick here. Any weapon that lands headshots counts, in any mode.
7. Search Containers (7)
Chests and ammo boxes both count, and progress carries across matches. Drop somewhere loot-dense and you’ll clear this in one or two games.
8. Visit 8 Different Named Locations in a Single Match
This one has to happen in one game. Pick a bus route that cuts through the middle of the map, land at the first POI, then grab a car to chain the rest.
Skip looting if you’re purely chasing the count; just tag each location and move.
9. Wish the Bus Driver a Happy Birthday (9 Times)
The slowest quest, because it only counts once per match. Before you jump, interact or emote on the Battle Bus (B on keyboard, D-pad down on controller).
Jump before doing it and that match doesn’t count. Do it first thing, every game, and you’ll clear all nine in nine matches.

Best Named Locations for Cake and Presents
Cakes and presents cluster around specific POIs, and OG is still the fastest lane for both while the event settles in.
Chapter 7 Season 4 (Battle Royale): Lifty Lodge, west of Latte Landing, Wonkeeland, south of Battlewoods, south of Green Hill Zone, south of Reality’s Reign, Golden Grove, west of Stone Sanctum, and Cluster Coast. Wonkeeland is the most consistent drop for cake.
OG: Junk Junction, Pleasant Park, Pressure Plant, Dusty Depot, Shifty Shafts, Fatal Fields, Paradise Palms, and Happy Hamlet. Land Junk Junction or Pleasant Park and loot every chest for the best shot at presents and balloons.
Epic also unvaulted the standard party loot pool for the event: Birthday Presents, Balloons, and the Firework Flare Gun. All three stay in rotation until October 1.
Two Extra Rewards Outside the Quest Track
Two more cosmetics exist outside the nine-quest chain.
The 9th Birthday Sprite Spray costs nothing and takes ten seconds. Open the Admin Panel from the lobby (the “…/ admin panel” button, top right) and type 9YEARS. The spray drops into your locker instantly.
The 9th Birthday Skin is tied to Sprites, not quests. Master 28 Sprites collected this season and the skin unlocks on its own.
The Birthday Sprite itself, which is what many players will be hunting for that mastery count, arrives September 26 to match the actual launch anniversary.
After it drops, chests and eliminations have a random chance of spawning bonus cake too.

Fastest Way to Finish All Nine Quests
A few habits separate players who finished this in two days from players still grinding on day nine.
Do the Bus Driver quest first, every single match, before you do anything else. It’s the only one gated by match count instead of in-match actions, so treat it as free and automatic.
Run OG for the item-heavy quests. Presents, cakes, and balloons spawned more reliably there in the event’s first days, and while some players are now finding them in regular Battle Royale too, OG remains the safer bet if you’re short on time.
For the 8-POI quest, pick a bus path that crosses the center of the map and grab a vehicle after your first landing. Golden Grove into Green Hill Zone into Pixel Polys works well as a rough route.
Eat cake only when you’re actually missing health or shield, since a couple of players reported it not registering otherwise. And check the Celebration tab under Quests if you’re not sure what’s left.
